Hello to all our Braintree American Families – We wanted to provide an update on where things currently stand for this year’s Little League season. As we all saw this week, the Governor has rolled out his phased-in plan for reopening the State.
There are still a lot of details that need to be provided as each phase has separate guidelines for activities and safety measures that must accompany them. We have been in contact with the Town and are awaiting further direction as to how we can begin to implement our plans for the season.
Based on what we know today, we would start practices as soon as Phase 2 begins, whenever that takes place. While we are currently in Phase 1, we will hold our drafts virtually, and make sure all our equipment and uniforms are made available and are distributed.
Our plans will allow teams three weeks to practice and get ready for the season.
Phase 3 would be the start of the season when games can begin; hopefully, we will be able to play our regular season format including playoffs. We will provide schedules early in Phase 2 as we further understand the State’s guidelines relative to organized youth activities.
The news is encouraging, and we are optimistic that we will be playing soon. Our hope is that by next week, we have the go-ahead and guidelines are available to start in Phase 2.
We do want to stress that while we still need specific guidelines for baseball, we should all know and expect there will be social distancing rules that will be part of this. As a league, we will do everything we can to provide a season for the kids, but we are going to need cooperation from parents and guardians to help us adhere to the State guidelines. While this may be challenging at times, we are hopeful that we can salvage a season with everyone’s help.
Unfortunately, if Phase 3 begins later than July 6, we will have to revise our plans, with the real possibility that there will be no baseball this year, but let’s think positive and go with what we have currently planned.
Thank you for your understanding. Stay safe and we will be in touch soon.
